Little Kids on the back of bikes

Sorry, I know it's in the wrong section, but this is about the only place where I know I'll see any replies.

Been down to Silverstone this morning for a quick meeting, on the way back up the M1, I passed three blokes on Harleys, two of them had small kids, and I mean 8-9 maybe 10 year olds, sitting behind them. What I want to know is, is there some sort of strap you can use on little kids to strap them onto a bike? or are they just expected to balance same as an adult? I ask because as I passed them I could see that one of the kids was absolutely spark out, fast asleep. There's no way the person in front would have known he was asleep, I was just thinking how bloody dangerous it was, the kid could have slipped off into the fast lane of the M1 at 75mph while he was asleep.

There's no such strap really. Depends upon the bike - but harlies can often have a back rest on which he can lean back onto.  That would be sufficient on a motorway (no real bends) to keep him in place.  Couldn't do it on sportsbikes really, he'd be straight off.

Still not a good idea though - not sure how he got to sleep either with the wind noise/vehicle noise and all the buffeting.

Just as Kwacky said, there is a pillion hand graps, which strap around the rider.  But these don't strap to the pillion.

I think that's too young & too much of a road for children pillions.

It's still only around the block for Ross(11 years old), with the other half.

I have heard of a pillion seat, back & side especially made, as a one off - that sound good.

its bad enough having a pillion who,s never been on a bike before but with kids it must be a lot worse for starters most of them would,nt see the road ahead !!!!

cheers guys, obviously I can't say for definite the kid WAS asleep, but he certainly looked it, eyes shut, head truned sideways and down and resting on dads back, I just thought it looked really dangerous.

Our daughter used to ride pillion with her dad from the age of around 5 - but always only ever local roads.  He very often used to pick her up from school - you should have seen the look of horror on many of the mums' faces. Big Smile
