    My daytona

Following the problems last Saturday with the bike deciding to immobilise itself and the fact that it kills the battery even in sleep mode I've got it booked in for next Monday to have the alarm removed.  Triumph Birmingham are doing the work. Fair play to them, they've agreed a price and offered me a bike to ride for the day until the work is done.  I've no idea what I'll be given.  I'm hoping it's a Scrambler or a street triple but knowing my luck it'll be a Rocket III Big Smile

The bloke told me that the Datatool Evo 3s can be a problem. Fortunately the new version can be switched off using a PIN.

    So you having another installed?

I had a laserline alarm, that could be switched off if you lost the remote via a pin entered using the igntion barrel as an on/off switch.

No I'm not. There's no need with the Daytona. I don't use the bike much so the alarm is more hassle that it's worth.

I had all sorts of problems with my datatool 3 when I had the daytona. Did the same sort of things that yours did, plus the alarm would sound whenever it felt like it, even when the bike was in the shed 30 seconds after the alarm had been armed. I managed to isolate mine down to some corroded wiring deep in the loom under the seat.. Took ages to find and fix..

I'd love a go on the Rocket 3.. (provided there are only straight roads and no coppers around Wink)

    Re: My daytona

the bike was doing that on Saturday and then sunday night - going off every 30 seconds.  On Sunday I took the battery out and wrapped the alarm in sponges and a large rug to kill the sound until the battery in the alarm went flat.

I had an alarm fitted to the SV shortly after I bought it, Sutton Motorcycles said to avoid Datatools as they're a nightmare and cause all sorts of problems. He recommended the cheaper option of going with a Motrax alarm (erm, I think it was Motrax, may have been something else). Anyway, my alarm is dead simple to use and only the immobiliser automatically arms after a minute.

On Ya Triumph said the same to me when I bought the bike. I fitted a Meta and haven't had a flat battery or spurious alarm in nearly two years.

The official Yamaha option for my bike is a Meta. I like it over the Datatools because you have to switch it on - it doesn't arm automatically like the Datatools.

I had the Datatool on the Fazer which had problems with the circuit board which caused it to imobilise when I was riding Indifferent although they did sort that out.

I then had a problem with the alarm on the D6 where it would keep going off for no reason which kept the neighbours awake. Atleast they were both still under warranty at the time.

I also used to get annoyed with the alarm setting if you stopped for petrol and hadn't switched to maintenance mode.

    Re: My daytona

the new datatool seems to have solved all the problems of the earlier models.  I've got on on the speed triple. It auto arms but only the immobilisor, not the alarm. It doesnt drain the battery, it's easy to change the settings and as yet (touch wood) it hasn't misbehaved.

    Re: My daytona

TBH alarms are more for individuals piece of mind than stopping a bike being nicked.

A mate had his bike stolen from work with an alarm...thieves just picked it up and put it in the back of a Transit with the alarm going off and people watching.Indifferent Never to be seen again.

    Re: My daytona

Yup - I've never had an alarm.  The cost of the thing versus the saving on insurance didn't add up (would ned to be insured for 10 years before I made the cost of the alarm back) and no-one pays attention anyway.

A far better system - and the only one I would consider, is the one that texts you if your bike is being moved.

    Re: My daytona

Meta alarm, that's it, that's the fella I have on the SV.

I've never bothered with an alarm either, but I'm keeping the SV on my drive at the moment locked to a large sunken ground anchor which I had put in when I had the drive done a few years back. My theory is, if somebody has a go at the bike at least I might wake up and disturb them .. or throw various heavy objects at them from the 1st floor window while calling the police.

    Re: My daytona

Think they would run a mile at the sight of you anyway without the need of chucking anything at them. A ground anchor and a good lock is your best bet.
