    brake fluid

I changed my brake fluid about 3 months ago.  This morning I noticed it has already changed colour and it's looking quite dark. Should I change it or is this normal? The brakes feel ok, slightly softer than when I did the change (naturally) but no issues.

Might be something to do with the seals in your master cylinder. the brake fluid in Ducatis goes brown very quick too cos it takes colour from the rubber seals in the brake system.

ah right, thanks for that.  It's a new master cylinder so the colour could be from that.

    Cheers.

    Re: brake fluid

My brake fluid went dark almost straight away when I had it replaced last Christmas.  Hmmm, that means my brake fluid (and the last time I had a service) is now around 18-20 months.  Is that too long?

Bought a chain cleaning device (that block that clips over and brushes/cleans it then lubes it.) it comes with pipes that might be okay for bleeding the brakes too (as they are still too high level Embarrassed )

You should, IMO, do your brake fluid every 12 months and I would suggest after every track day.

    Re: brake fluid

I had a service and brake fluid change.  Then changed my pads myself (putting the fluid above the max line) then did a track day, then left it like that for 18 or what ever months.

I'm shit at this looking after things.  See I'd be a great god.

    Re: brake fluid

I'm gonna have a go at changing mine this weekend now.  I guess 2 trackdays and around 19 months is long enough.  They still feel fine tbh - even though its over the full mark - but I fancy giving it a go anyway.
