    New Boots

I need some new boots.  Anyoen got any suggestions?  I liked my Sidis so I might go back to them, but I see J and S  are flogging Oxtar off really cheap at the moment

Deem, how you getting on with the Pumas?

Oxtar are good. I've got the TCS Goretex ones and they are all day comfy, completely waterproof and look good. The protection they provide looks good too although I've not "road" tested them. The only downside is that they squeek a bit. I think Oxtar are now renamed TCS last year.

I like Sidi's too but I've had problems with the zips on them in the past.

    Re: New Boots

All of my boots have squeaked, so I've no problem with that.

    Re: New Boots

Absolute pain in the bum to get off, but other than that they are awesome, feel very protective without limiting movement, survived well in very heavy rain, didnt feel any water getting through. Ive walked around in them for a couple of hours and they been very comfortable. They have enough space for my leathers to be tucked in without being intrusive. They really have got it spot on with the ankle movement, doesnt feel restricted at all, yet feels protected.

My friends has just bought a pair of the Oxtars, (He paid £38 delivered from ebay brand new) they remind me of my old Sidis. I do feel technology has come a long way since then though, They are great value for money, but the basic models havent quite copied the vertibra system right, my old sidis had limited forward and backwards movement the Oxtars look very similar, but they dont have the sliding pieces of plastic limiting the movement (if you have a pair of sidi vertibras ull knwo what I mean), not sure how well they would fair in a crash.

If you are buying your boots for commuting, dont buy the pumas, its a 2 person affair getting them off and could be rather embarassing in the office. I would highly recommend them for weekend blasts though.

The vertigo corsas look like the best of both worlds, as they have a zip down the side so must be pretty easy to put on and take off.

    Re: New Boots

I've got the SIDI Vertigo's, not the corsa's though. They are really comfortable, they can get a little warm when it's really hot, and the vent on the side doesn't seem to do much.

The adjustable calf bit means they give a really snug fit whether I'm wearing the textiles or leathers. The zip on the side does make them really easy to get on and off, plus the protection level is really good. I was wearing the SIDI's when I came off the D6 and they still look as good as new.

    Re: New Boots

Cant't beat Alpinestars IMHO. I would definitley try for some goretex boots to commute in. Completely waterproof and don't make your feet sweat/smell!

    Re: New Boots

i like the oxtars i bought.  A good buy at £90 odd.  Have been in the rain - yet feet have stayed dry despite vents.  And they are comfy to walk in (sometimes go to college in them, and where them while there)  Do squeek a little, but a squirt of wd40 stops it for about 1 month or so.

    Re: New Boots

The Oxtar TCS Goretex have those slidy bits. That's what makes them squeek. They were about £160 when I bought them but I'm sure they would be cheaper now if they still do them.

I always go for goretex ones for all year round use but you do miss out on vents with them so they can get a bit warm in the summer months.

    Re: New Boots

I had a look in J and S. I liked the Oxtar.  Wasn't keen on the Pumas.  Arlen Ness looks good but I don't know anything about them.

They had some very nice Frank Thomas boots.  I would have been tempted had there been anyone arsed to see if I needed any assistance.  I must have tried 4 pairs of boots on so it was clear what I wanted but oh no, the JandS staff were more interested in their cup of tea. Which took them 20 minutes to drink.  It's a wonder they sell anything.

Any West Mids recommendations for Boot suppliers?   Isn't there a place near Coleshill?

I think I know which Frank Thomas ones you mean kwack, Theres a massive George White outlet centre in Swindon, they had them there. Its defo worth a trip if you have never been, Its around the size of a B and Q.

4 very big industrial units, one of which is devoted completely to clothing and accessories.

    Re: New Boots

The puma 1000s are available for £150 so I've ordered a pair.  They should be here at the end of the week.

If they're not good for commuting I'll get a cheap pair for the ride to work.
